Amrita Datta

Amrita is a Sociologist focusing primarily on transnational migration and mobility. She is a PhD in Indo-German migration from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Earlier, she was a recipient of Hanns Seidel Stiftung Sandwich Fellowship to Humboldt University Berlin and DAAD Research Fellowship to University of Cologne. Presently, she is a Marie Sklodowska Curie Fellow at the Department for Sociology, University of Siegen, Germany, and a Visiting Postdoctoral Fellow at the Max Planck Institute of Social Anthropology, Halle. Amrita’s other research interests include: gender-mobility/migration interface, migration uncertainties, and reflexivity in migration research. Presently, she is working on her first book on the Indian immigrant communities in Germany, tentatively titled: Why Move?
